Lundangi, Franck

Angola, 1958

Franck Lundangi was born in Angola in 1958. He was a professional football player before immigrating to France in the beginning of the 1990s. He abandoned competitive sport to devote himself entirely to drawing and painting. From 1994 to 2001 he was an artist in residence at the Dufraine Foundation of the Académie des Beaux Arts in Chars and at the Trousse-Barrière Château in Loiret. In 2001 he settled in Briare and took up sculpture. In 2004 he participated in the itinerary exhibition Africa Remix. Contemporary Art of a Continent. Lundangi’s work is similar to the naïve and symbolic art in terms of style, but it is different mainly in the sense that it is clearly influenced by the African imagery in the way it depicts everyday moments and nature. His imaginary universe is created not only by the organic and stylized shapes, but also by the chromatic palette.
