Born in Lisbon in 1935, Bertholo was one of the main protagonists of the artistic avant-garde that emerged in Portugal in the 1950s and 1960s. With a work that crosses abstractionism, neofigurativism and kinetic art, the artist knew how to integrate technologies in a pioneering way. and contemporary concepts in his work, expanding the traditional limits of painting and sculpture. His involvement in collective projects such as the magazine and the KWY group, as well as the creation of devices such as “reduced models” and “makina”, highlights his role as one of the most innovative and influential artists of the 20th century.
