Little is known about Janko Domsic’s life or the circumstances of his arrival in France. He probably spent some time in prison and in 1935 he worked on the construction of a railroad. In Paris, where he lived in miserable conditions, he drew and wrote with colored pencils, ballpoint pens and markers. His drawings teem with writings in French, but sometimes also in Croatian and German. With the exception of some material from his personal life, Nazi songs and religious writings, most of his vocabulary refers to mystical ideas, to the moral code of Freemasons and to the economy. Pentagrams, swastikas and hyphens embellish his depictions of figures stretched to extreme lengths, in which the lines are joined together and form a labyrinth.
