Schley, Charles

France, 1910-1973 (?)

Abandoned at birth, Charles Schley went to school until he was 13 years old leaving without any diploma.
He then went to work for the Peugeot family on one of their properties. In 1929 he was confined to the Maréville psychiatric hospital near Nancy. In 1932 he was transferred to the Saint-Yile psychiatric hospital in the Jura region of France, the reason being “suffering from mental disability”.
It was during a weekly medical visit in 1960 that the doctors discovered his drawings accumulated in his room among all the rubbish.
