Gonçalves, Daniel

Portugal, 1977

The son of an alcoholic and violent father who was a carpenter.
Daniel out of his 5 siblings was the only one that escaped going to prison.
As the parents couldn’t afford to feed all the family Daniel was sent to a seminar at 12 years old to develop a vocation that he never achieved. The experience was short lived as the violence continued in the religious school. He returned home to learn the trade of his father, but once again the daily beatings
made him give up the trade of Saint Joseph. He decided to emigrate to the U.K. where he worked as a waiter in an English club. On his return to Portugal he worked as a builder, miner and barman.
