Reinaldo Eckenberger was an Argentine painter, draftsman, sculptor, engraver and ceramicist. He began living in Bahia from 1965 onwards, which according to him was the only place in the world capable of housing the baroque style of his art. Son of German parents, Eckenberger was born in 1938 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He studied Architecture and then Fine Arts. He attended the Escola Superior de Artes Plásticas for two years. While still living in Buenos Aires, he took a Scenography course at Teatro Colon. In 1965 he took up residence in the capital of Bahia, Salvador, especially interested in baroque art. In 1966 participated in the 1st Bienal de Artes Plásticas, known as the 1st Bienal da Bahia, at Convento do Carmo, in Salvador, an event initiated by the government of Bahia and local artists. At this Biennale he presents his 1st solo exhibition in Brazil entitled “Luxo, lixo. Lixo e luxo”.
