Bezombes, Roger

France, 1913 - 1994

Roger Bezombes was born in Paris in 1913 and in 1934 he began his studies there, at the École des Beaux-Arts. His work in the field of painting is characterised by the depiction of the human figure and by the saturated colours similar to the ones we find in Henri Matisse’s work. Besides painting, the artist also devoted himself to sculpture, graphic design and scenography. From the 1960s onwards, Bezombes began to develop research into medallistics by creating metal objects, many of which are similar, from a formal point of view, to medals or moulds.
