Barbosa, Serafim

Portugal, 1983

Serafim Barbosa is an extreme case of singularity. Nothing in his relationship with the world, including his way of artistic expression, obeys to the formal expectations and pre-determined conventions, as since his early age only the “different” was not indifferent to him.
Diagnosed with Asperger syndrome, he found in art a field where his capacities are emphasized, whereas the rest exposed his insufficiencies.
His extraordinary qualities allow for the creation of unusual and surprising associations of shapes and colors that aren’t always understood by those of formatted conventional taste yet are extremely exciting for everyone with an open mind and awakened senses.
