Based on the Esperanto expression portreto de la animo – which means portrait of the soul – and with works from the Treger Saint Silvestre Collection and from the National Museum Soares dos Reis, the exhibition presents a comprehensive selection of works from the Treger Saint Silvestre Collection, taking as its starting point the portrait, one of the oldest artistic forms of depicting the human being.
Portraits—painted, photographed, sculpted or filmed—have been the subject of countless exhibitions, but this one introduces visitors to unconventional examples, many of them by authors from the artistic field of Outsider Art, which is the focus of this collection created by António Saint Silvestre and Richard Treger over forty years ago.
